Slide-O-Mix for the slide! DEFINATELY Slide-O-Mix!! Proven system, works absolutely better than any kind of slide cream on the market.
For valves (for tubas too), I love Hetman oils. They have various oil and grease thicknesses for all needs!

check out trombone.org for their opinions.
The three biggest brands are Slide-o-Mix, Superslick, and Trombotine. I haven't tried Trombotine yet, but between Slide-o-Mix and Superslick, I prefer Superslick.

Slide-O-Mix can build up on a slide pretty quickly. A friend of mine had to send his slide to the trombone doctor to get the slide professionally cleaned to remedy his situation. He is not alone. 2 members of the San Francisco Symphony (1 on payroll and 1 pretty permanent 3rd tenor) have had this issue. I've heard it can be especially bad on Bach horns specifically. For this reason, I'd choose Superslick, but i think it may depend more on the specific horn. How much space there is between the inner and outer slide can change the effect drastically. I know many competent people that swear by Slide-O-Mix, but also heard too many horror stories about it to use it myself.

I use trombontine with a Hetman hydro-slide spray. Works great! I tried all the others. this combo works for me.

Trombotine works pretty well. Just remember to leave a small amount of it on the slide to make sure it works properly.

Pond's cold cream from the drug store and a spray bottle of water.
Use a very thin coat of the cold cream on the inner slide stocking only.

Well, it says on the bottles for best usage, daily slide cleaning is recommended. That really holds true for any slide creams/lubricants. If regular cleaning was being done, those types of problems shouldn't crop up to that extreme. I'd say most of the trombonists in our studio at school do daily slide cleaning. When you're playing 5+ hours a day, it's really a neccesity, regardless of brand.
