Anyone check this out yet? (20 min. warm-up) {Davis}

The sound clips sound pretty advanced, anyone know who this book is appropriate for? Good/ bad?

I sell this so my opinion might be a bit biased, but here is a description of the book for you:

For each section there are 2 tracks:

1. Gene (Tuba) and Mike Keybaords) playing together
2. Mike (Keyboards) so one can play along

There are 15 sections:
1. Air it Out
2. Sound
3. Tonguing
4. Extended Slurs
5. Basic Flex
6. Flexing the 5th
7. Interval Flexibility
8. Broken Triads
9. Ocatflex
10. Interval Attacks
11. 5th Connection
12. Chromatic 4ths
13. Super 9ths
14. Control
15. Pedal Point

Opinion: I think the book is quite valuable and can be used by many tuba players at various levels. Maybe not all the etudes/tracks, but most will work for everyone. It brings you through everything you should do everyday to keep your playing in tip top shape. I do feel some of the tracks might be a bit too fast for the average player. If that is the case, set the metronome and play at a tempoo that you feel is comfortable!

Thought I'd dig this up and hear some more opinions of this stuff before I buy it later this week.


Will I be transposing to make this stuff work on my bass, or will it work out okay on just about all the keyed horns.


(not that I care either way, but still curious)

I got this book awhile ago and I think it's great. Granted, a lot of them really stretch the player out quite a bit, but in a good way. A couple of the octave exercises can get a little crazy.

Hi Wes,

You might also want to consider the 15 Min Warm Up book for Trombone http://www.hip-bonemusic.com/15warmup.htm to go along with the 20 Min. Warm Up book -- the 15 Min book has a lot of good exercises in there that you can play down an octave or transpose..... I use and like both the 20 and 15 Min Warm Up books and am getting good feedback and results from my students who are finding it helpful as a daily "work out" for their fundamentals.

Let us know what you think of the books once you've tried them!
