I know you said you didn't want to have one made, but these are reasonably priced and I'm sure she makes plenty for 56j's.

I would think a bag for it's kissin cousin the King 2341 would also fit and I would guess that Dillon's or Baltimore Brass has those in stock from Alteri. I would also think a bag made for a CB or GB-50 would also fit.

Cronkhite has a pattern for the King 2341 - It's a good bet that that bag wil fit.

I'm sure that Matt at Dillon has a Soundgear gig bag that will fit that in stock. It's the best bag I've ever bought, by FAR.

I ordered a bag from Altieri for my son's 56J. When it arrived, it didn't fit because of the extra 4th valve tubing that the XXJ tubas all have. I returned it and Donna made a new bag allowing for that extra tubing. I also had a student who bought the same tuba and had the same problem. I would think that Altieri is now aware of the XXJ design and should make the bag to fit the first time around. I've always been satisifed with Donna's product, as I've ordered 7-8 bags from her over the years and I only had to return one for an exchange. You might also specify the interior and piping color, otherwise it will be made with purple interior and red piping - pretty funky looking to me. I've always specified the black piping so that any interior color will match with the entire outside being black. On my son's bag we specified maroon piping and interior with the black bag. It looks good. Before we ordered the bag, we were using a Pro-Tec bag with his 56J. It's the bag that's for sale with the Jupiter tuba that I'm selling. That bag fit, but the straps are fastened high on the bag making the horn slap you in the butt when you walk. You're better off with Altieri. Good luck with whatever you do!!

Gig bag fit is not as universal as it may seem even between "similar" horns. Note below that the 2341, G-50, 52J, and the 54 & 56J all require a different pattern from Glen Cronkhite.
Cronkhite actually has a pattern specific to the Conn 54 & 56J tubas listed at being 20x35.
The 52J is listed as sharing a bag with the B&S PT-4 that's 18x34.
The 2341 has its own Cronkhite bag listed as being 20.25x34. Along the same lines, the Getzen G-50 also has a pattern that is exclusive to it listed as being 19.5x 32.75.
Check out the sizing information on hornguys.com to compare.

I have a hunch that a Dolly bag made for a Getzen G50 would fit pretty well.

Altieri is by and far the best bet IMHO I am getting ready to order my 4th bag and I have alays been more than satisfied.
Be careful of bags that will fit the King 2341 or the Getzen G50 - Those horns do NOT have the extended 4th valve wrap that the Conn's do and therefore the bags are not quite the match one would expect. The Soundwear that fits the 2341 I know for a fact does not properly fit a Conn 5XJ

My Altieri bag fit my 56J just fine -- no alterations needed. I've had it a couple of years. Purchased thru Lee Stofer.
Satisfied Altieri customer,
