Not sure if this is an answer of any kind but here are a few images of old and new and a close up of the old. The old helleberg is from 1925, thats the year the tuba it came with originally was built. The original Conn-Hellbergs are quite expensive and not for everyone. This one works great for my needs.







For most, this is about as close as they will ever get to an original but don't fret, the new ones can be pretty darn decent, easier to find and a heck of a lot less expensive.

Any chance of a side by side pic looking into the mouthpiece so we can see the rim and cup differences? Thanks.

I'm a bass trombonist, but have an interest in things tuba (I spend my life sitting next to one). A question :
I read in the book about Jacobs, 'Song and Wind' that when Jacobs saw the tooling for the Conn Helleburg mouthpiece in the '60's, Conn had not made that mouthpiece since the '30's. They make them now.... so was there a 30/40 year gap in production ?
