You can catch performances at the Proms in London on the BBC website. Minnesota Orch (with Steve Campbell) is doing Mahler 5 today. Philly Orch (with Carol) is playing in early September. Pittsburgh, Berlin, London Symphony, and others are also performing. Here is a link:

I listened to this live, and the interpretation is very different from what I'm used to hearing. I liked it - it's nice to hear something different.
Steve Campbell sounded awesome. Very nice solos, and a huge solid sound supporting the brass.

I'm not sure if he was playing it on this concert, but Steve has been playing a lacquered PT-6P for the last few years.
Well I thought it a polished performance by the NDR Symphony Orchestra this evening. It did not look like Hilgers on tuba, but whoever he was he was very good, coming through nicely. It appeared to me like he was playing a silver plated Fafner. It was either new, or had been well polished - it gleamed like a jewel!
Hilgers is one of tubists in the Vienna Philharmonic/State Opera with Paul Halwax. Current NDR tubist is Markus Hotzel, he can play just a bit... I would love to hear Hilgers with Vienna, buit have yet to...anyone know of any recordings?

BBC Prom Concert by Philadelphia Orchestra Cancelled Due to Fire
By Matthew Westphal
03 Sep 2006
Tonight's appearance by Christoph Eschenbach and the Philadelphia Orchestra at the BBC Prom Concerts in London was cancelled at nearly the last minute. The cause, according to the BBC, was a small fire in the Royal Albert Hall, the venue for the performance, that led to the loss of electrical power.
No one was injured in the fire, according to the BBC, though there may be smoke damage in parts of the building.
The program for the concert was to be Matthias Pintscher's Hérodiade-Fragmente, featuring soprano Marisol Montalvo, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.
Due to the tight scheduling of both the Prom concerts and the orchestra's itinerary, tonight's concert cannot be rescheduled. The Royal Albert Hall will refund ticketholders' money.
There is no word yet as to whether tomorrow evening's Prom concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra (featuring the Fifth Symphonies of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky) or tomorrow's late-night Prom (with Leonidas Kavakos and the Camerata Salzburg) can go forward.
A joint statement by the Royal Albert Hall and the BBC said, "We would like to assure you that urgent work is being carried out to repair damage and we aim to make the hall available for full use as soon as possible. We hope that both Proms scheduled for Monday 4 September [Prom 67 and 68] will go ahead as planned. A further statement will be issued when any further information is available."
