Man, he played that at ITEC this year and I was literally 10 feet away from him...he's one of my biggest influences (he and Jon Sass). Me and my friend met him up in the practice rooms after the ITEC concert and we talked for a few minutes. Man, that was crazy...I got to hang out w/ my idols. To answer Wilfred's question, it's not to terribly difficult. If you can do mulitphonics and you can sing fairly high then it's not that hard (though it's not easy). I'm gonna try to play that song (I think it's called "The Warrior Comes Out to Play") this year for the Phi Mu Alpha American Music Recital.

I saw him do this live at the Midwest Regional Tuba Conference awhile back. Simply amazing! And, to answer the question about how it does it, the short answer is a combination of singing and multiphonics. The real answer is, I don't have a damn clue!

Now here is a success story.We were discussing how to make it in the music business and the advice Harvey Phillips gave his students.Here is a prime example that Mr. Phillips would be proud of.A guy with huge and unique talents finds a way to bring it to larger and larger audiences.The dude can play the tuba VERY well in the conventional way(if any doubt,check out the Soto Voce recordings),but also has his niche talent that pretty much,only he can do.Did you see that audience reaction?You can't BUY that! They're coming to south Alabama sometime this year and I'll be there...

Okay, what kind of media player do I need to download for that file? .smil?
Safari spat it out right quick. Why does the internet and computers need to be such a hassle? Do I have M####soft to thank for this? Or A##le?
I'm sure it sounds great, but sure would like to hear it to confirm!

I don't think you can download it since it was a live performance in the studios at NPR. I think you can only listen to it.

Plays fine with RealPlayer 10 on Mac for me. Might need to update RealPlayer.
Or try "Get info" on the .smil file and choose RealPlayer under "Open With" and click "Change All".

If you guys don't mind spending a few bucks, Nat recorded that song on the Youngblood album "Unlearn" a few years back (and it's twice as fast as the ITEC and YouTube performances). Also on that album is Nat battling a DJ...it's pretty sweet. I'm all ready learning that song and hopefully sometime late this year or early next year I'm gonna perform it ("The Warrior Comes Out to Play").
