What is this "Fafner" solo that I've read about? I know it's in one of the Wagner operas, Siegfried, I think. In what section does this solo take place? Any reply (on this topic) would be appreciated.

Another dragon solo is in "Rheingold" when Donner and Loge go to the dwarfs´ caves to rid Alberich of the Rheingold and the Ring.
In the same opera there is a loud lick (not a solo, but massive low everything) depicting the clumsy, stomping giants Fafner and Fasolt.

Its ultra fun to play. SOunds downright menacing on a huge Kaiser Tuba. The same with the Giants Motif in Das Rheingold. Especially combined with the snarling bass and contrabass trombone.

Also after the long call during act II of Siegfried;before and during the fight in which Fafner is killed...plus some tasty section stuff too.

Hans Pizka has on his website, a few links where you can hear the beginning of the Dragon Motif, and one where you can here most of the part. The links are included below, and I must say the 1949 rcording of Vienna playing it is an outstanding, snarling, nasty beast of a player. Its an awesome rendition of Fafner.
2000 Grand Theatre De Geneve, anyone know who played tuba?
