My quintet needs to get liablilty insurance for the touring that is coming up along with some of the recitals we are planning at local high schools. Any suggestions as to where one might go to get this insurance?

Wow...sounds like something I need. I don't know of where to get it, but I'm wanting to watch this thread, and I don't know of another way besides this.

Do you think that you might perform so badly that the composer/audience might sue?

I don't know if it applies to what you are doing, but I do know that you can purchase insurance through the AFM if you are a member. Hope this helps.

I suspect the insurance that will be required by the school districts is the type of personal liability insurance that teachers carry.
I'm sure the local teachers' union can give you more details.

I went through USAA (if you or a member of your family is in the military) and I purchased "Valuable Personal Property" insurance. Both of my horns are insured my Kalison for 6,000 and my Yamaha for 1,000. Costs about 10 bucks a month...

I just got off the phone with Clarion Insurance, This seems like a really good deal. Thanks for all those who told me to check this out.

My brass choir (~12 to 14 piece -- Christmas season only) used to play at the local shopping mall until they started requiring a $1M (insert little finger tip between lips ala Dr. Evil) liability insurance. Hence, we no longer spread Christmas cheer there.
Does "Clarion" cater to musicians somehow? Any other "musician friendly" options out there?

I've done this a few times. For a single event, the insurandce is not really that expensive. The last time I bought a policiy for a single day at a single location, it was less than $100.
Anmd to a earlier poster, most schools do require that you show proof of a general liabilty policy. The school wants you to pay if someomne slips in the theater and sues.
