"Custom" Home Sousaphone Painting

Post by Jedi Master »

Hey folks!

I am considering having an artist friend of mine, do a custom design on my fiberglass sousie. My question is in two parts:

1) What would look cool? (I was originally thinking about a snake theme, complete with fangs on the inside of the bell, and scales down the length of the outside bows), but before I go for it, I thought I would mine the collective creativity of the list, for some other great ideas!

2) What kind of paints would work best? I was thiinking glossy enamel, but maybe there is something else I should consider.

Thanks!

I know I'd like to see the "king of instruments" to be munchin' on some clarinets, oboes, other woodwinds, maybe even a trumpet or two. If you don't mind putting stuff on the bell, you could get a nice 3D effect going!
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

My old 1940 King has a bad spot on the left lower part of the bell. I laminated a photo of my grandson blowing this very same horn and applied it over the bad place. Old ladies love it.
