I haven't been to Best Repair in over ten years, but last time I was in Oakland, there were two different shops with similar names...

"Best Music" was a retail instrument shop specializing in new horns and rentals.

"Best Instrument Repair" at 564 14th st (510 832 2452) was run by Dick Akright. Great shop in a huge basement, torches glowing, horns everywhere. Dick redid the (5) valves on my Buscher double-bell back in 1987 when I was just starting to play...

Dick Akright at Best Instrument Repair is an excellent repairman, and he charges very fair rates. He worked on many of my horns during the 10 years I lived in S.F.. He is always busy, so be sure you call to find out when he can make the time for you.
