Hello all, I am in need of some informed help. I am in the process of trying to make an international tuba shipment in a large box(54"X36"X36") that weighs approx. 75#. I have an account with DHL and they are quoting me $3000. I tried the UPS.com website and they are saying $650 but I am not sure they will take a box that big and will have to wait until next week to take it into a UPS branch and get an official ruling. Anyway, if someone here has recently shipped a tuba internationally and has some info(website, phone#, etc. etc..) please email me or post it here. I have sent many horns around the US but only 1 overseas and that was before 911. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All the best,
Chris Olka

I have had several good experiences with Bax Global albeit most likely in the opposite direction than your needs.
I am not sure, that they are the cheapest ones, but they according to my sources are the only ones providing full value insurance.
If you live near one of their hubs, it will be cheaper to fetch it there yourself.
The main positive experience was, that I never had to make any insurance claims.
Klaus Smedegaard Bjerre,
known by Bax in Copenhagen as the guy with the large brasses and the small dogs (my late BI and my current BII both have been there)

Drive it over to the Airport and put in on Air Cargo.
Cheap, Fast, Efficient!

Buy two seats on a plane, one for me, one for your tuba. I'll take it over there.

I second that. I've shipped two tubas internationally with BAX Global. Very quick, a range of insurance options (that I didn't need to use)... They were fantastic both times.

Greetings
Baltimore Brass shipped a Meinl 2145 to the U.K. using UPS for me - cost $750. The beastie was shipped on a Monday and arrived Thursday the same week in pristine condition.

Thanks cats. I think I have lots of options now and they all look good. Thanks again for all of the input.
