Octuba-Euph Fest at UNT yesterday

What a great afternoon of music! Tuba solos, euph solos, a tuba-euph quartet (with the artist formerly known as Crappy Euph), euph duets, a euph trio, a euph quartet, master classes, and a reading session for all-comers. And Dr. Bowman even played the required tape music for the 2007 Falcone competition as a learning tool.

Like many on this forum I am partial to small low brass ensembles, and they all blew me away yesterday. And among the solos I came away thinking that James Grant's "Stuff: Theme with Seven Variations" might work on a 6/4 horn. Has anyone tried this? David Seip sounded really good performing it on what looked like his Canadian Brass/Getzen G50, but at the same time the range just sounded like it just might be in a big Holton's money register.

Thank you to the ITEC chapter for organizing the festival and thank you to all the performers for a delightful afternoon that will stay with me for a long time.
