I'd be a bit concerned about the weight of the case itself as far as flying. I'd call Roger Lewis at the Brasswind. He can answer the questions about the size of your horn and they sell the cases. There are lots of traveling threads here and what it comes down to is that it mostly sucks. Airlines are not responsible for your stuff, they can decide not to take your horn on a trip, or to charge you more one day than the last. If I were commuting between only 2 places I'd just get another horn as a spare. By the time you pay overweight charges and buy the case you can amortize the expense and own something more substantial than an old case and travel reciepts. Just my opinion of course, however based on the fact that right now I still have basses in Europe that I use only in Europe, and used to have a tuba there too. Long story.
