What's a good recording of this piece that you can really hear the tuba part on? Thanks

There was an old LP by the Philadelphia Orchestra; Mr. Torchinsky can defintely be heard on that one. I'm not sure if it has been re-released on CD.

If its still in print, Montreal Symphony with Dutoit. Ellis Wean sounds phenomenal!

The
BEST one is clearly The Cleveland Orchestra recording from the mid-seventies with Maazel conducting. Mr. Bishop sounds AMAZING on his big Alex. The orchestra overall sounds awesome as well. Its on one of those double disk prokofiev greatest hits collections, definately check it out if you consider yourself a REAL tuba player

Although I have a number in my collection, my two suggestions for best performances (with a special "ear" for the tuba) are:
[1] Simply the best recording of any I've heard (and tubist Ellis Wean sounds fantastic - present and audible throughout)
Montreal Symphony Orchestra/Charles Dutoit cond
1989
Decca/London 421 813-2
[2] A truly "Russian" performance (sorry, don't know tubist's name)
Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra/Mariss Jansons cond
1988
Chandos 8576

Is that not more due to the recording/electronic folks rather than the performance and performers?
