I was wondering if anyone knew about the new wick mouthpieces. I got to try out a couple and was impressed. The outside looks quite nice compared to the old design. Does anyone know if the the rest of the mouthpiece was changed? I liked the 2L much better than my current mouthpiece, but unfortunatly, with an overgrown alex 164, it swallows just about any shank I put in there. Looks like Doug Elliot's getting a call soon.

Comment: from looking at http://www.deniswick.com , it looks like all of the tuba mouthpieces are now being made to the new exterior profile, while keeping the same listed specs: overall diameter, rim diameter, cup diameter, throat diameter & type of backbore.

Question: has anyone played and compared the same model in old vs new profile? I like my old style #1 for my Besson, I'm wondering if the apparent thinning of the exterior rim along with the apparent adding of mass to the throat area makes any noticable difference in tone, responsiveness, intonation, etc.

I haven't, but if anyone wants to trade an old style #2 for my new style, I'd be up for that if it isn't too chewed up. I don't expect to hear any difference in the sound - I can't imagine that he changed the interior dimensions, and differences due to exterior dimensions are too mystical for me. Honestly I just think the new one looks dorky, and since I don't like the way my #2 sounds, I may as well have one that looks good.

I do like my #5 (old style.) It has some plating loss, no real problem for me. I wonder if lacquer might be a quick fix for someone who is sensitive to metals.
