Valve slide

My first valve slide is way too tight on my PT-6. I'm quite sure that it is not bent. There is what seems to be some plating on the inside of the outer slide that I think is the problem. I was thinking about runing a honing tool, by hand, with a tap to see if it would clean the inside. What are your thoughts on this and also, would a quick pass with the honing tool attached to a drill be a good idea?
What's up with the "plating" on the inside of the outer slide?

Before you consider it:
Insert only one end of the tuning slide, does it move freely?
Insert the other end, does it move freely?
If individually the slide ends are okay then it is likely an alignment issue.
If only one end is too tight you will know where to start honing.

Thanks,
I have done the inner slides individually, in fact, I do that every time I grease the slides to get even amounts of grease on both ends. The slide catches either way, and is extremely bad with both parts in.
I am really bothered at this point because I put a dent in my third valve slide today while trying to get the first slide out.
