Happy soon-to-be Turkey Day!

I recently bought a silver 1928 Conn euph and it was all tarnished and looked terrible! It is cleaning up nicely but it has also uncovered an engraving of a schools name. Is there a way to gently remove this or will it require sanding and re-plating??? Would agressive buffing work? I'll post before and after pics when I'm thru polishing it...

Depends how deeply the name was engraved to begin with. If they went very far, you're going to end up with a way-too-thin place in the bell, regardless of how much you remove and buff. If it's light, you'll still end up with a big spot that's thinner than the rest...

Unless you think the horn may have been ripped off, I assume your intention is to restore it. It might be just as easy to scrounge up a like bell and replace it, which wouldn't be that hard to do. Otherwise, just live with the added provenance, or, if it's from somewhere like a state mental hospital, cover it over (or give it to a viola player... ).

Yep...

They put the name on the bell and the body... I guess I'll just consider it a part of the horns history...
