There has been a lot of interest over last few years in double bells, or so it has seemed to me. I think they are a very interesting brasswind and they certainly have lots of appeal with the audience. Having dealt with a number of these instruments, my view is that the prices previously given are a tad on the light side, considering a restoration on a Conn five valve short action double bell euphonium can run as much as $3k. Take into account the costs of a valve rebuild (5 valve), plating strip if needed, polishing with/and/or bead blasting, silver plating, gold bell interiors, parts, etc. and lets not forget labor...lots of labor. If you are looking to buy one, the prices as I have witnessed start at $1500 un-restored but playable. If you get one for less, thats great but the reality best dictates that you should plan for the higher figure if you really want one. Then there are no surprizes. If you want one that is completely restored to like new...well......you can do the math.
