German Brass Sound

Can anyone authoritatively speek to any differences between the present American orchestral brass sound and that of the German? I know in decades' past the Germans generally played with a brighter, more spread tone esp. in louder dynamics, as well as "pear-shaped" articulations(i.e. a swell at the beginning of a note). Some noted players have acknowledged a more "international" approach as of the past couple of decades.
What should an American tubist know about how to play differently at a German orchestral audition, if differently at all?

Also, use the bass (F) tuba for all music unless the part specifically asks for a contrabass (B flat) tuba. This is contrary to the American preference, which is to use the contrabass (C) tuba if at all possible.
