I have a "chicken scratch" handwritten copy of the Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1 written out for tuba but it is somewhat hard to read. Is there a copy of it out there anywhere for sale? Or does anyone have a nice Finale version of it they would like to share? (I just want to play it for my own enjoyment)

I also had a handwritten copy (of a copy of a copy etc.) of the Strauss. As it had no accompaniment, I bought the sheet music for horn (in E flat or F) and piano when it was time to perform the piece. Now I just add three flats and read the E flat horn part - it is much easier to read.

This is similar to the thread about the "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Fawn" a few weeks ago. Micky did a book of transcriptions with no piano parts, you still need the original instrument's version. He dropped it off and it is ready to print - I have been busy and have not done it yet. This will be done the beginning of January and I will have it at Ft Myer.

Be aware that the final Rondo is in E-flat major not A-flat as indicated. This book is quite worthy since is has a lot more than just the Strauss.

Yes, BUT BEWARE OF THE MISPRINTS.

Play along with the recording once or twice. I've probably found a good twelve in mine (thru the whole book) and if I had it with me down here in Arkansas I'd type them all out for you.

Save the $$, give yourself another edge on someone else...learn to read it from the original part!

Don't think I would save money because I would need to purchase the original parts to these as well.

A friend of mine is inputting my James Graham version into Sibelius.

I don't have much issue with the Graham manuscript, except for the couple of mistakes that went away with the wave of a pencil....

It's a fairly clean copy....I have scans if you want them sent to you...PM me your email...I'll be happy to send them....

I have a feeling we have the same copy. My photocopy is from an original book however...that might make a difference in how clean the copy is....

If you ever have a chicken-scratch or badly deteriorating copy of a piece, just get Finale Notepad and write it out there. Takes a little while, but you get a good legible copy out of it.
