What type of mouthpiece do you play on? what are your favorites?

I've never owned one, but a lot of people like the Laskey 30G on this tuba. I also know of some using an Arnold Jacobs CB mouthpiece. Worth a shot.

I do not play a PT-6 (although used to own one), but are not the PT88+, or PT50 the generally recommended mouthpieces, so good to try first?

However, it all depends on your sound concept - I like the smaller PT90 on my Neptune for the clarity it provides.

I actually play on the pt-7 horn with the pt-88. Its a good mouthpiece for the lower range, but not really for overall flexibility. I would go with the pt-44. Its a good all around do everything mouthpiece esp. on the larger horns.

Mr. P has most everyone in the studio on an 88,48, or 50.

You also have to remember that he gets all of us to have a very specific type of sound that works well the the horns and mouthpieces.

Go with whatever works for you and sounds the best.

I dont believe in using big mouthpieces for the simple fact that although they do provide a nice big sound, I dont believe they contain much clarity and core of a persons sound or at least my sound. I believe considering since you own a big horn, you dont need a big mouthpiece or your just gonna sound big and a lil edgy. Thats why i use the MMVI ( not to mention the stainless steel feels wonderful), a medium size mouthpiece, to contain my color and sound plus produce a much power and even more with a better tonal color clarity with the MMVI.
UUHH??? Euro receiver.

Seems like a standard to me.

A bit bigger than an American receiver

Yea Ive played all of the ones mentioned and after my playing them ive narrowed my search down to two of them.

The mouthpiece that came with my tuba (B&S 18)
and the MikeFinn 3H

But i cant for the life of me find out a damn thing about this B&S 18, except for I sound good on this pt6 with it. and it looks similar to the bach 18.

I use the original Baer piece and it works for me but I'm very interested in trying the MMVI, if you care.

Maybe the 18 could be one of the older numbering system pieces?

Don't know; call Neil or Jeff.

Usually I use a Mike Finn 3. Others I often use are PT 50 (for the ability to have more edge), and Mirafone TU29.

Well the pt6 does have a euro reciever. if you happen to use something like a helleberg and place it in the mouthpiece shank reciever, it would sit in a bit too far and you will have intonation probelms and no serious musician would want that and i hope no one would want that to begin with.
Thats funny, I thought the PT6 I've played before had a smaller receiver than my HB2. The mouthpiece went in further on the Hirsbrunner than on the PT6. Anyone have a definitive idea whether its Euro or Standard?

how do these threads get so far off?

I put a euro shank alan baer in my pt6 and it barely fit.

MW215588

I don't think this guy can be real. All the different horns he's had, not to mention some of the absolutely retarded posts.

Forgive the thread jack, maybe I will start a new topic in the off-topic section to discuss MW215588 validity.

It also depends if you use mouthpieces too large to fit in the lead pipe right. Because it WILL over time stretch the metal into a bigger opening(I found out the hard with with a Monette.......)

It looks like the mouthpiece receivers of PT6 must vary according to age. When I had a PT6 it took a euro shank mouthpiece, and so does my current Neptune.
