The bell must have been replaced. That would also explain why it has a garland, but doesn't have the nickel tubing throughout.

The bell's been changed. That's not unusual. New bells come with just the logo. Most likely a 186... if the bell's about 16 1/2" to 17" in diameter. Could be something else if the bell's smaller. I especially like the bloke coins on the finger paddles. Are those modern pound coins?... or old shillings?

I hate to potentially burst anyone's bubble, but the horn appears to be a 186-S. The coins look like euros to me. As far as the "no serial number on the bell"- I bought my 188 when I lived and played professionally in Germany, and my tuba doesn't have a serial number ANYWHERE. I don't recall that any of the european-market Miraphones had serial numbers on the bell, either.

Agreed--not much nickel on this one and the valve caps don't appear to be engraved. Early 186S horns didn't have the garland, but later ones did.
Which doesn't make this any the less of a good player; there's just less eye candy.

several things
1. no nickel silver tubing on all 4 valve tuning slides and main tuning slide, they are all polished brass
2. no engraved back valve caps
3. no double lines on all the ferules on the main body of the tuba
4. no nickel silver leadpipe
5. much older S model because the first 2 valves are still different than the last 2 on rotation. that was all changed around 96 to all 4 in the same direction to the right
these all make it a S186
