Bernstein '63 recording of Berlioz 'fantastique'

Who was playing tuba with the NYPhil at the time. He sounds fantastic.
Seems there is no second tubist as Lenny did as Munch did and used a baritone and contrabassoon combo.
Still need to know who the tubist was, if anyone can help.

Something makes me think so. I just want to verify that though. Who were the tubists over the years before Warren Deck (now becoming overtly curious) including their years too...

If memory serves me correctly, Mr. Novotny played the 2nd part on a Besson EEb and I think Gordon Pulis played the first part on a *GASP* bell front 4 valve Baritone. If you check out the old Young Persons Concerts DVD's, there is a perfomance of the last movement with some great close-ups of these guys in action. It was shot around the time of the recording, so my supposition is the above. Truly wonderful performance. I believe there is also a recording with Deck and Don Harry with the Dies Irae in octaves, it floored me when I first heard it.
