Hello all you Tubenetters in the great PNW.

Just sending out an update of events for the 2nd Annual Northwest Intercollegiate Tuba/Euphonium Symposium hosted at the University of Washington on 1/27!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again, our guest artist will be Pete Link from Chicago Civic orchestra and freelancer extraordinaire. He will be starting the day with a group warmup open to everyone who brings a tuba and then present a masterclass on the demands of being an orchestral performer while also actively working in one of America's busiest music freelancing cities.

After his masterclass we will have a short break followed by the founder of N.I.T.E.S., Devin Otto, tuba/euphonium instructor and assistant director of bands at Eastern Washington University. The topic of his masterclass will be "Practice Strategies, Mental and Physical." I don't know about anyone else but I can always use a few more good ideas on this topic and knowing how organized Devin is I am looking forward to this one.

Directly after Devin's presentation there will an open panel discussion involving all of the attending proffessors where the students and audience members can ask us about any thing they want. I figure between all of the accumulated experience present we should be able to solve all of the world's problems and still have time for a short lunch break!!!!!!!!!!

Then there will be an hour student recital featuring some of the students from all of the attending universities.

Following the recital our esteemed colleague, Curtis Peacock, newly appointed tuba proffessor at Central Washington University will present a Jazz workshop/Masterclass and share with us his experiences in this often neglected genre that can prove quite lucrative to the aspiring young musician. Curtis studied with Sam Pilafian and I think everyone on this board knows what a strong force Sam is for the tuba and euphonium in the Jazz idiom so this should prove quite stimulating.

After this there will be a break for dinner followed by the faculty recital in the evening featuring our guest artist Pete Link as well as the attending college proffessors.

I will be making up a more detailed schedule and posting it here shortly but I hope that this is enough of a teaser to get all the PNW tuba and euphers out to the UW for a great day of music and learning. Again, this event is free to the public and we encourage everyone to come for as much of the day as they can.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All,

First, I'd like to give a public thanks to Chris Olka and all involved for inviting me to be apart of this years N.I.T.E.S. It sounds as though it is shaping up to be a great day of events and I'm surely looking forward to meeting all those who can make it out.
I'll even make it back home in time for the SuperBowl the following day.
Go Bears! (I hope)

Pete Link
