Anyone have a MIDI file or any other recording of the accompaniment to the Hindemith Sonata?

I have a few students preparing the piece, and I think it would be great if they could practice with a recording before they meet with their live accompanist.

Bove. You may want to consider getting SMARTMUSIC on your laptop. It is a great alternative to these midi files and can be easily manipulated to work "with" the student. It has adjustable sensitivity for following the soloist (or you can turn that off and they must keep up). There are many titles for the tuba including the Vaughan Williams, Hindemith, Strauss 1&2, Lebedev, and etc. It also has scale studies (basic) and some rythmic training. It also includes a metronome and a tuner that is quite good. It also works with FINALE music software so you can scan in scores that re not on the SM list. You can also request new accompaniments. The fee is yearly, and is about 90-100 bucks. I believe it used to be called the VIVACE system. Much better to be sure..

I also suggest you look into the SmartMusic software. The list of tuba titles is somewhat limited, but you can also borrow any other instrument's literature (horn, of course) and have a strong library of compositions. I would recommend turning off the Intelligent Accompanist feature until the student is rhythmically solid and secure with the intervals. You can also have the tuba part played with or without the accompaniment. I use this when I have my students buzz the solo line so they can really grasp those opening ninths and other intervals. Do remember that if you at all disagree with the interpretation on the software, it is completely adjustable with or without the Intelligent Accompaniment. Listening to the accompaniment of the final section of the third movement at any speed you want played perfectly justs blows my mind.

Indeed, there are many features with this program that can be a great tool for teaching. Often, students will see the software's ability to follow a performer and not be ready for it. If one turns off this feature and uses the others in a thoughtful and goal-oriented educational way, then this program is extremely beneficial. But save the Intelligent Accompaniment feature as a reward for the proper hard work in working up the solo.

You found an accompanist who can play it? Congrats...
