All of my life...Be the better person, hang in there. You'll become the example for the section. I sat next to "Mr. Personality" aka "the @#$!!&" in school too. The director knows what is going on and will appreciate your commitment.
On the otherhand... you could put crazyglue on his mouthpiece...

Bonde

This should be an interesting thread. I suspect everyone on this board has had some unpleasant relationships with fellow players. My latest peeve is the guy next to me who "breaks wind" in the loud parts of the rehearsal. Gives a new definition to the word "tutti".

the sad truth is that what ever and where ever you do anything in life there are going to be people that you don't care for or for some reason don't care for you. i say make it a character study for yourself. the next time you have to be around someone you don't like you may not have a choice and learning to deal with this situation without leaving the band could just help you learn to deal with people a little better later on in life. plus you'd still get to play which as far as i'm concerned makes it a simple answer anyway. hope this helped some.

Quit obsessing over it--they're not going away any time soon and worrying about it will just "angry your blood". Take a professional attitude--play the music on your stand to the best of your ability and ignore the personality problems.
Life is like that, sometimes. Like it or don't; it isn't going to change either way.

I guess the only problem I have with my band...is that the other tuba
JUST PLAIN DOES NOT CARE...I hate it

...'cause I'm super enthusiastic about it, and he couldn't care less. I guess I might be somewhat of a jerk to my band director since we've had extremely easy music this year. Last year we had a different band director, and had more difficult music...but that's a totally different director...the new one is brand spankin' new, fresh out of college, and still has
LOTS to learn...

Hey- this person is distracting you from seeing what sterling people inhabit other sections of the band, so actually, rather than quit, you could thank them! Plus, they're making you look REALLY good!!!
