I was comparing my PT6 to one of my colleagues at school and aside from the difference in lacquer, I noticed that the bell taper is very different. The engravings on my tuba doesn't say PT-6 but it does say Perantucci so it must have been made after Perantoni and Tucci took over.

So my question is, did Perantucci redo their PT6s and if so, what were the old specs. Thank you.

and for you B&S experts who could date the horn, the serial is 271xxx

You might want to email Robert Tucci about it. He is the only person I know of who has a serial number list, and he was very helpful when I emailed him about my pre perantucci (sort of) PT6.

what about the model 3098 stamped on the horn? I assumed that it was the 'official' name of the horn but now I'm not sure.

It's still not a big bummer though. It's a great sounding horn and I couldn't be more happier with it.

The predecessor to the PT-6 was the PT-5, IIRC. It had similar specs. Maybe you have one of those.

There was in-fact a PT5 that was the predecessor to the PT6. I owned one about 10 years ago and miss it daily. It had a slightly smaller bell taper into the bottom bow and played a little tighter than the PT6's. Other than that, there weren't any real differences (bore, etc). It also had the same pitch tendencies with some of the PT6's (the flat Eb's and sharp Ab's)

I still think they are fantastic instruments and if it weren't for my rocking 2165, I'd get another PT6. I wished I could have kept it, but it was just too large of a CC for what I was doing at the time.

it might be the PT-5 I actually was the guy who got the PT-5 from you for the getzen josh many moons ago.

in regards to the number.. mine is also 3098... another slight change i noticed was that the 4th slide on the older model is not as curved as the current one. for the sake of age, my horn is a 2006. Not sure of the age on the older one.

Someone mentioned on here a while back that only instruments sold outside of germany have the PT-6 stamp on them (i.e. custom music, Perantucci importer)

Possibly this horn came from germany without going through custom music? (speculation, as I don't know how accurate the stamping opinion was)

Could someone post a picture of a PT-5? I have never seen one, but wondered about the gap in numbers between PT-4 and PT-6

Can you guys please look at this Perantucci? I can't find anywhere that the logo says 'High Professional'.

Can you tell from the logo how old it is? And is it a real PT6 model 3098?

That looks like early 1990's example, but the man to tell you is Robert Tucci. I would suggest you email him at Bob@perantucci.com" target="_blank . If you have serial number, he may even be able to tell you exactly when it was made. Robert is a very nice and helpful man.
