Off on a similar tangent:

At my full-time orchestra gig, we do a couple of pop-ish concerts a year. Usually pretty good, often custom, arrangements. These colleaugues, who often have trouble with the normal orchestral repertoire, suddenly allow themselves to consider themselves commercial, or even 'jazz' players; putting fall-offs on every other note, lots of glisses, and plenty of ad-libbing. That's one of those teeth-grinding work experiences for me: hearing them punish commercial music. :?
