Jon is easily in my top 10 list of tubists I have ever heard live. Also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.discotuba wrote:I've been meaning to post this for a while. For those who aren't familiar with the new tubist in the Army Brass Quintet, HE IS THE MAN.
I finally got to hear the quintet with Voth on the first night of the Army conference, and he sounded soooooooooooogoood!
He played some Vincent Bach cornet solo transcription (from memory), and it rocked to say the least.
I wish these military guys would stop sounding so good and scaring me away from the auditions!! Thanks to Jon V. for helping us take it to the next level.

Jon did a beautiful, VERY musical, interpretation of the Strauss concerto (#2?) at the ARMY conference several years back. I enjoyed listening to the music, not just the tuba!

I believe he did that performance just out of basic training. He still had "the haircut".Z-Tuba Dude wrote:Jon did a beautiful, VERY musical, interpretation of the Strauss concerto (#2?) at the ARMY conference several years back. I enjoyed listening to the music, not just the tuba!
