I think that I've checked almost every website that I can think of, most of which I've found through tubenet, but are there any other places you can suggest to look for a good eefer? Been to Lee Stofer's, Baltimore Brass, Dillon, Tuba Tinker, horn guys, and probably a few others that I'm forgetting. I know that I need to call some of these places as websites don't always have the full up to date listings and I will get around to doing that, but thought in the mean time that I'd check with ya'll to see if there was any place else to look?

(Sigh) I've been hiding this secret, to get to match my BBb Besson, but since I'm in real need of another BBb, I'll have to let the Eefer go:

Rare English concert tuba in the key of EE-flat, by Boosey-Hawkes, sililar to their "Besson model 976 Sovereign" tuba, but with 15 inch upright bell rather than the 976's 19 inch upright bell. The instrument has three compensating pistons (no need for alternate 4th. valve fingerings on a besson compensator...). Condition is very good, with dents to the end-bow recently burnished out in our shop in Wichita. Serial number is 487,650, the tuba manufactured about 1970 - 1975. The original lacquer is worn maybe 20%, worn areas spot-lacquered in our shop in Wichita. Price includes a canvas carrying bag that looks new. The USA distributor for Besson lower brasses has informed us that the new retail price for this instrument would be "more than $10,000". This one's a best buy at $1595.

The last one of those that was on Ebay (in nicer condition) went for 7 or 8 hundred dollars and I thought that was overpriced. A four valve comper with the smaller bell recently went for $660.

They're dreaming at the price of $1595. They've listed this horn several times on ebay, the last time with a starting bid of $1295. No bites.

I think 3-valve compensating instruments are nifty, but a 3v E-flat can't be all that useful, it's missing too many notes that get used often in all kinds of literature. However, I would like to have one as a toy. I've tried to get Chuck(G) to sell me his 3v compensating CC tuba a couple of times with no luck.

There were a few recently at DillonMusic, as well.

The main point of having a 3-valve comp Eb for me would be to double octaves in certain pieces that a BBb would be too strong for the texture. Of course, low notes are not an issue there by definition, and you definitely stay out of the way of the euph line that way. I know, this is about one piece in every two to three years worth of programming, so I haven't seriously bargained about it either.
