A friend of mine has a beautiful Martin "Magna" cornet.
When he uses a Martin 1-1/2 mouthpiece he sounds better than on any other cornet. But the mouthpiece is old and beat-up. He bought a Bach 1-1/2 but it just ain't even close. Is anyone here familiar enough with the Martin mpc to suggest a brand and model currently available that is similar?

I know that is not a tuba question, but the expertise available here has never failed to amaze me.

Kanstul will find the best "cross section" with a laser to accurately measure its contours and duplicate it.

My antique King MC that goes with my Silvertone cornet come to mind. It's a true V cup mouthpiece that makes my cornet so dark and mellow it approaches flugel tone with its sterling bell. If you want to look for one, know that before WWII the taper of the shank was different than after WWII when King finally hopped on the Bach taper shank bandwagon. The difference is an extra ring of "hash marks" around the throat of the older larger tapered ones.

I don't know what the contours of the King "Del Staegers" model is, but it is supposed to also have "that tone."

The only Bach V-cupped cornet mouthpiece I know about is the 5 in one of three cup depths: SV, MV & V.

Sparx in Canada make modern versions of V cupped cornet mouthpieces, to good reviews. Ted Sparks is a player in the Hannaford band, and GR engineers and makes them for him, also in a variety of cup diameters and depths.

Of course, you could always try a British short shank mouthpiece, of which Denis Wick is the standard.
