I will be performing the Eric Ewazen Concerto for Tuba or Bass Trombone with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra on March 10 and 11. I will be using my PT-10 F tuba. I was pleased to learn that, since the dates correspond to Spring Break at Juilliard, Mr. Ewazen will be able to attend the performance. The program also features a piccolo concerto by Bruce Broughton. The theme is "All Creatures, Great and Small."

My first hearing of the piece was at the Regina Conference in 1999, where it was performed by Velvet Brown with the Regina Symphony, conducted by Roger Bobo. Both the music and the performance made a big impression on me, and I've been looking for a chance to perform it ever since.

You will find Dr. Ewazen to be a charming and supportive man. I played the solo for him several years ago. Tell him hello from Tony at Capital University...and GOOD LUCK!!!

Michael-
Eric Ewazen is a joy to work with and will give you new insights into the work. He is one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet and is truly thrilled when people perform his music.
He flew out to Madison and coached my brass quintet on a few of his pieces a few years ago. He's really great.
Knock 'em dead in Calgary!
