Hey Bob,

The Ewazen concerto fits nicely on either tuba or bass trombone. The first movement isn't Encounters II hard but still very enjoyable to listen too; I have performed it for juries and placement auditions on both CC tuba (would fit even nicer on Eb) and my 1062 bass trombone.

FWIW, the first movement (and to a lessor extent the third movement) of the Vaughan Williams is VERY hard for many bass trombonists; especially what they like to refer to "the" lick starting on their pedal F.
The third movement of the Gregson would probably sound quite nice on bass trombone, especially the "bluesy" part.
I have thought about doing the Ted Cox arrangement of R Strauss's first horn concerto on bass trombone as well as F tuba, it looks like it would lie quite nicely.

I am surprised that Halsey Stevens' Sonatina has not been mentioned. It is written for either Tuba or Bass Trombone and comes with solo parts for each. You can easily play the tuba version on bass bone but vice versa would be very difficult. The piece was written for Don Waldrop. My son used it for an audition piece and contest piece, on F tuba. I have played it on both BBb and Eb tuba.

I am pretty sure Doug Yeo performed it first. You might want to check up on that, but as far as my memory serves me, I believe Doug Yeo did play it first in a performance.

Also, the Lebedev Concerto in One Movement works well too.

Pretty good piece that has been overlooked for the past 20 years is Robert Spillman's Concerto for either bass bone or tuba. The tessitura is fairly high so it is a great bass tuba piece. I have to wonder if it even is in print anymore.

I like the Lebedev concerto, myself. I played it for my senior recital in college (I did the Vaughan Williams for my junior recital.)
