When I was there this past summer, I stumbled across what looked to be a cool used instrument store. No tubas in the window, but there were a couple of ophecleides. They kept odd hours so I was never able to make it in. If you're interested, I'm sure that I could put you on the right block; it was in arrondissement 1. If you were to stop by, they may be able to point you in the direction of a used brass shop.
You probably mean Bissonet in Rue Pas de la Mule, just off the Place des Vosges. One of the greatest shops in the world for historical wind instruments, with always a few ophicleides. Great shop to visit, but don't look at the prices

Try l'Olifant as well. Their site (
www.lolifantparis.com) is not working properly at the moment, but it's the most serious brass shop in Paris.

I don't know the city well enough to name other shops, but I'll ask around. I've got quite a few colleagues who go there very regularly.
p.s. remember in your communications with the locals that in french the word 'tuba' is used for the euphonium/baritone variety. For the bigger version you need to ad the word basse or contrebasse.
