I am trying to find any information(key, age, value) of this tuba. Any help is appreciated. The only info I have from the seller is Miraphone Kaiser Wilhelm II model from around 1948. Thanks for the help.

Judging from the configuration of the tubing before the tuning slide, it looks like a BBb. I'd bet the ranchette on it.

Value? Almost worthless. I'll give you $20 for it.

I responded to your personal message but I'll post here, too... Just in case....

It looks very much like a regular Mirafone 186 BBb valve section. If I could get a better shot of some of the bracing and backing plates for the harness rings and thumbring it would be nice. Mirafone probably made some 'kaiser' tubas that were just like the 186's except with a larger bottom bow and bell. Meinl did this, too. ... as was the case with the Meinl 20's and 25's. Some played good and some did not.

As far a value is concerned... that could be all over the place... ranging from a few hundred bucks in poor condition to maybe $2,000 for a horn in good condition.

OK, if it really was made in 1948, that means it was one of the very first tubas Miraphone made. The company was founded in 1946, but for the first year, most of what they did was repairs. I believe they began making smaller brass around 1947. It is possible that they made a tuba by 1948, but I'd be suprised. You should contact Miraphone directly. E-mail Kari Theinert, kari@miraphone.de and ask if she would do some research. Send them a serial # and dimensions of the horn.
