I am really enjoying a couple of etude books I picked up at the Army Tuba Conf.

unknown etudes in 24 keys - Tuba Etudes - Bryan Doughy
most etude books get boring cause all the etudes seem to share a consistent style or they have maybe 10 fun etudes and the rest are a real challenge to enjoy. this book hits all the keys and does it with REAL MUSIC and DIVERSE STYLES. Every one of the keys gets a full page etude which is good enough to be a performance piece. GREAT BOOK!

Baer Tracks Music
Tonic/Dominant Scales for Tuba with Piano Accompaniment CD
12 keys and a CD that you can play along with for intonation and music making. The CD has 12 tracks, one for each scale etude. Then there are 3 tracks which are progressively faster than the previous encompassing all the etudes nonstop.

I just played the entire CD along with the book and that is a hell of a workout. My hand started to cramp on the 15th track with 2 more keys to go. I pushed ahead, but it got ugly.

This will work out your face, ear, time, fingers, and sanity.

Baer Tracks Music
"Cross training" Scales for Tuba
a concise book which is thicker in work then it first appears. it efficiently covers scales, chromatics, arpeggios, accidentals, articulations, intonation, velocity, high range, and more

This book is only 12 pages but is a heck of a workout without overwhelming you like an Arbans does. It is aimed and being played on both F and CC and facilitate ease with the switch.

Thanks for the plug! If any one is interested, they can be found here:

The first etude is a free download in .pdf form.

There will be another volume of similar etudes in a few months and I will post when it is available.
