The best tone and intonation for a Conn souzy is the 14k with its regular valves and the smaller 24 inch bell.
I don't think it's the valves per se on a 20k as it is the wide throat making the horn sound woofy.
I'd love to see if a 14k bugle with the 20k short throw valves would be feasible and if it would be marginally more comfortable to play.
If the smaller bore King had the short leadpipe into the block as does the Conn, instead of the long main tuning slide before the block with the tight curve, that might also change my mind.
