The 1934 Conn catalog lists the 80J as a 'medium bore' horn... but does not give specific bore diameters. This web page (
http://www.xs4all.nl/~cderksen/Conn80Jd ... image.html) says the 80J shared the same bore as the Conn 'Monster' horns.
I can send you a .pdf file of the 1934 Conn catalog if you send me your email address.

My 1929 Conn CC 80-J is .735" through the valve section.
The body is a bit larger compared to the Miraphone 1291 and the bell has a larger diameter at 20".

All indications that I've had from the factory is that my horn is an 80J, though I admit I don't have any info (or have I ever read or heard anything about) the 84-J. My tuba is not low pitch.
Mine is an upright, fixed bell but the bell is a factory replacement. I always thought that the original bell could have been damaged and this replacement was the result.
A bell front CC? I've never seen it but if anyone would have made it, Conn would have.
I have never understood the "Grand Orchestral Bass" term that you use. I thought the 2x-3x-J tubas were the "Grand Orchestral Bass." My tuba is much smaller than the 2x or 3x tubas. It is a grand orchestral tuba.
If you have info on the 8x-J models, I'd appreciate a copy.
