Very very sad news. I remember as a high school student hearing Mr. Dodson in the Philadelphia Orchestra and being just amazed at what he was doing.

At that time, my mother worked at a retirement home where they hosted musical events frequently. She came home one day and told me there was going to be a trombone recital that night by someone from the orchestra. I went, having no idea what the trombone was capable of or who Glenn Dodson was, and came away awestruck and inspired.

Mr. Dodson will live on for me in those memories and through the many recordings I own with his magnificent musicianship, tone and leadership shining through.

RIP Glenn Dodson.

this is truly a great loss. i was told that he was showing joe alessi his porche and just went. very sad indeed.

I was lucky enough to be the NY State High School Summer Orchestra at Saratoga in 1977. Mr. Dodson was our low brass coach and coined the best phrase to define playing I ever heard; "Controlled Abandon". Priceless.

He was a no-nonsense guy who insisted on perfection. One of a kind. And my heart goes out to Joe Alessi. That has to be one of the most awful things ANY person can witness. I hope he is OK.

Mr. Dodson, played principal trombone in the Lancaster British Brass Band the past three years; in fact he was a charter member and never missed a rehearsal or concert. He never had a chip on his shoulder or acted like he was better than anyone else. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the band and it is indeed an honor to have played in a band with him.

He will be missed. We are dedicating our concerts on April 27 & 28 to him.
