Lately, I have seen and heard many people playing on their Nirschl York, B&S, etc. Then I am curious how many of you or people are playing MW2165 in the Orchestra.
The MW2165 used be more popular back in the 90's but I have not heard anything about the horn lately...
Therefore, I would like to hear your thoughts about your 2165? Do you still play it or not?
I myself play the MW2165 and I love it, but I may switch back to 5/4 C. (who knows )

I play my 2165 in a community orchestra and a very good community band. I love the horn, would'nt switch to anything else Nothing gets the air moving more, than practicing on a 6/4.

Yes, I love the sound,too! However I think people are winning a job with 5/4 or something that has more clarity?
I have tried everything to make the sound much lighter, but I think the horn has a limit...
I thought this horn would be a perfect horn for me but it is really for one purpose

I picked a 2165 up from Fedderly and was recommended by Bunn (also owns a 2165) a few years back. IT has a wonderful presence and ease of playing abilities - I used it in a quintet at Tanglewood w/out too much hate. The fun would soon be over when I sold it back to get a mirafone. I think the 2165 could stand a few improvements. But then again, I probably wasn't blowing quite right...

True people are winning jobs on smaller horns and the 6/4s do have a limit on how you can change the sound. But the 6/4s were made for putting a foundation down in an orchestra/band/brass ensemble.

To be more versitile in the music industry you need to be able to blend with the right tone, color. A smaller horn enables you to do this.

My playing situation is that I play in big ensembles, hardly ever do quintet. The 2165 gives me the most bang for the buck.

At work I have two souses' and a Yorkbrunner. What can I say, I like big horns.
However I like the 2165 better than the Yorkbrunner, plays easier, warmer sound, more in tune, not as iffy in the high register.

I also play the 2165 in Brass Quintet and it iwas a little too big but sounded fine too. Maybe I might switch to smaller horn too...

I see, I like the big horns too! I guess if I want to play with flexibility I have to change to 5/4, then...

Keep in mind you can probably find some 5/4s out there that are less flexible than some 6/4s.
