Strauss Horn Concerto No. 2 Question

I have a performance question about the low C and F at the end of the 2nd movement where it changes to bass clef (note: I am playing music written for E-flat horn). What is best? Playing those notes an octave down (like I am with the rest of the piece) or playing them as written? I've practiced both and see pros and cons for both as well. Any advice would be appreciated.

French horn bass cleff notation is most of the time (but not allways) an octave too low.
In the Strauss, the written C contines the line before, so it's only a fourth below the F before. The bass clef F is the same as the one before. Don't ask me why we use bass clef like that, we don't get it either

If you want to do it differently, be my guest, you're already playing it on tuba :D

Thank you for the advice. Either way works for me right now. I figure I can't make a final decision until I've rehearsed both ways with accompaniment.

No, you have me mixed up with someone else. I was just kidding you about your very familiar looking avatar!
