... I'm just wondering that nobody mentioned him...
I think Mr. Mead's professional life is unique, just see the lots of CD's, Concerts, musical styles he presents. I really admire he's work and for me He is without any doubt the greatest euphonium player of all time!!!

Ray Young for his groundbreaking sound (in the US) along with Fred Dart. They were contemporaries from Revelli's band, who are fading from view though they were the best of their generation.
They represented the change in approach to the euphonium from Falcone's Italian sound to a darker, bigger sound with a slower vibrato.
Brian Bowman certainly stands out in his generation and now look at his students. The man can still put out a ton of sound.
Steven Mead pioneered the international solo career for euphonium.
John Lennon is definitely the best known and highest paid of all euphonium players which explains why his popular works transcribe so well for euph/tuba quartets. He never could made it as a pro eupher though.
