Which Mouthpiece?

I just purchased a Miraphone 1291 from Dillon's. I'm using a Mike Finn 3 mouthpiece and it is far to big for the instrument. I need to go smaller, but not as small as a Helleberg. Medium sized if you will... Any suggestions?
The Miraphone's bore is .772" to .835" graduated bore if that is any help.

yes i don't want to go to the 7B. Compared to the MF3, that mouthpiece is a little shrimp! Anyway, what about the Laskey mouthpieces?
7B is not "the" Helleberg

Try the "real" Conn Helleberg instead of the 7B. I think it is now called the model 120 although I think most of the people in my age bracket still just call it the Helleberg as there was no such thing as a 7B until "fairly" recently.
Another bit of history is that back in the late 60s-70s you had your selection of gold plated or gold plated as a choices too.

Check out the new Giddings & Webster line of stainless steel mouthpieces. I'm using the "Willewaw" model and it is truly excellent. Great response, articulation, note centering, and sound. Not too big rim inner diameter but nice deep cup. See the specs at <

yes a 1291, if you are ever able to get your hands on one, i think you should give it a shot. I think it's one of those instruments that you'll either like or hate. As for me I love it and it's perfect for what I do and what I'm planning to do.

any other suggestions on which mouthpiece to use on it? I'm goin to Dillon's around 10:00 on this Monday morning and would like to have as many mouthpieces in mind as possible.

I experimented a LOT with my 1291 and ended up with a Laskey 30G. Much better overall than the 30H for this horn. If you want smaller, the 28G is also a good choice. I am thinking of getting one because of the different and slightly lighter sound it produces. I tried about 15 mouthpieces, including all MF models.
