Oystein publishes good information on the site. In the "Tuba Pages" section is a good description of the use of a recorder to improve one's playing and to have fun making recordings by playing all the parts in a tune. It's called "Electric Tuba" and is something I'm researching doing myself. He describes an older 'PortaStudio" which is inexpensive. WWBW has one for under $100. It will record four separate tracks and uses a cassette tape. I'm looking into a more modern digital setup which would either use my computer for the recorder or be a self contained unit. These go for $250 on up.
Read the article- it's interesting.
He also describes the two Miraphone EEb tubas he helped design. I have my eyes on the Norwegian Star for sometime in the future.

An interesting article on the Miraphone Eb's worth a read
I have also learned that if the taper is uneven, the tuba is more likely to be out of tune and have odd sounding notes.
