I found some new instruments!

Hey everybody, haven't been here in a while. Missed everyone. What's it been, a year or so?

Anyway, I'm swinging on by because I had a question about a few horns I just picked up. A customer of my dad's just passed, and his wife just sold me his four horns (two trombones, a trumpet and a cornet) for 500. I think I made out like a bandit on this, but I'm having a hard time appraising the instruments because most repairmen around here are woodwind players, so they can fix the brass stuff, but not know much about the horns themselves. Here's what I have:

Two trombones; both, I believe, are student models, but I'm not sure. One is a Conn Director, which is in pretty good shape. I believe it's from the 70's, if I remember correctly. The other one is a King Cleveland Superior from before '70. The slide needs a good deal of work; the silver finish is wearing off, and I believe it's horribly out of alignment.

The cornet seems nice, it's a Conn 34A from 1954. It's in good working order, but the lacquer is dulling out in some spots, and seems almost overdone in others. That's all I can find about it.

The real find is here. The trumpet is a 1967 Olds Recording. All I know is that the Recording trombone line is really nice and sought after. The horn is in perfect condition, minus some scratches any horn would get after 40 years. Besides that, it looks almost brand new. The repairman that looked at this horn said it's never needed any kind of work, and that it looks like it's all original.

So, does anyone know what the worth of these horns may be? I think the recording is worth a few grand, but I'm not sure.

Very cool horn! I just happen to have a '67 Recording myself, and I love it. I've seen them for around $600-$1000.

The Olds Recording trumpets are indeed very cool instruments. I have an ~1954 olds recording that usually gets quite a reaction among trumpet players, too. Those that love them seem to REALLY love those trumpets. Good find!
