The bucket o' doom... How many of you do this?

This all started many years ago with scale juries. Put all the scales in the bucket, draw them randomly, play them your full range.

Scale juries are long gone, but I've recently adopted the bucket "full on" so to speak in my practice regime.

Now, not only do I have all the scales in it--- but all of the advanced Bill Bell exercises, breathing exercises, Hipbone warm ups, and articulation exercises.

I really like the spontaneity it brings to my warm ups and "keep up" exercises that I do each day. It kind of takes the monotony out of it.

How many people do odd things like this? I know the bucket has been done before, but does anyone else do it as often as it seems like I am?

Not true. I passed mine this semester, thanks to a bucket method of my own.

Funny you should mention this, now....I just got a "Twister" spinner off of ebay, and am going to set it up with all 15 scales + chromatic, for use with my students.

Oh, please. I removed it, you bitter man.

Good thing I wasn't offering lessons, huh? Just a bucket.

I too, raised at least one eyebrow, when I saw the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) requirements for 15 Major scales, but then realized that they include the enharmonic scales (B, Db, Gb, AND Cb, C#, and F#).
