Yesterday, I heard a great group (BQ plus drum set, listed in the program as Fulcrum Point) play at Millenium Park in Chicago. It was the School of the Art Institute's graduation ceremony.
They Kicked!

You can find more info here. They are a fantastic group. They performed here at UWMilwaukee a few months ago, and, as was already said, they kicked! Exciting things from this group!!

Rex Martin is the regular tuba player for Fulcrum Point. He showed me one of the scores that he had to play for them a couple of years ago. It consisted of fast eighth notes in a crazy meter like 29/8 (similar to Zappa, but a different composer). Whew!

I think this must have been the same excerpt that Professor Martin then put on our pool audition - euphoniums too, in the written octave!
It was the hardest excerpt I've ever played in my life.
