Does anyone besides Scooby even own a Thor?Does anyone know anyone who owns a Thor?....

I know a Thor owner who attends college in Wisconsin. I will see if this person cares to come on the board and add some input. The student sounded great to me when I heard some playing for a lesson 2 weeks ago!!! The Thor horn is a great horn from what I experienced in my try-out sessions. Never played it in a real concert setting though. This person would have.

Tooted on one at WWBW, until a rather petite young (college?) female tubist customer took it back to the warehouse to try it out with a few others to listen to the sound. I was amazed with the low register sound output when I played it, and it sounded even better when the other tubist tooted on it. In spite of her smaller physical size, she was able to get a big sound from the horn. Big. Amazingly big.

The low register sounds ... "strong" ... "powerful" ... not broad, but weighty and dense. I really liked it.

I found the upper register of the 1292 I was also playing to be easier to play -- more agile -- than the Thor in this register (for me). But the mid-low and low register of the Thor was simply amazing -- noticeably more "potent" than the 1292, imo.

That's the best I can do in the "description" category, other than to add that Roger's description of this horn on the Tubadome website is accurate, when he combines eschatology and scatology in the same phrase.
