Hello everyone,

I am wondering if anyone one on here would know of the following recording:

Holst: The Planets, Zubin Mehta, New York Philharmonic, I think from the late 80's.

I heard it once when I was a Tanglewood in 99, and have never found it. I am quite sure that Warren was playing, and he and the rest of the brass just laid it down. Especially the pedal e's at the end.

Anyone info would be greatly appreciated.

Its probably not, but might you be thinking of Zubin Mehta with the LA Philharmonic? The Brass is plenty loud on that one (with both Bobo and Johnson) and I can't find any reference at all to a recording with Mehta and the NY Phil of the Planets. I'd be interested if it exists.

I do have the one with LA, and it is very good. This was NYP because is remember playing it after the LA one. I think it was release for a very short period of time. Hopefully someone on here has it.

I've heard this recording. It's excellent, but I prefer the LA recording over it.

I have both. They are phenomenal. I prefer the LAPO recording as well. Especially Uranus.

NYP with Mehta, has to be Warren. I have it as well.

If you're looking for it, good luck. Its out of print. It comes up on Ebay every now and then.

I have a recording of the LA Phil version but it's not in Vietnam. It's from the early 1970s.

You can read about that recording here:

I do have this recording, it was recorded in 1989, and I found it at ACADEMY Records in New York City for $3.99!!

It completely dominates the LA recording, in my opinion. I don't need to hear people playing 184's as loud as they can, especially 2 people doing it.
I know I will probably get kicked off the board for saying that, but sorry...

my opinion
