I know many people have been eagerly awaiting the release of the material I recorded with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra last year and I am happy to say that disc 1 of 2 is finally here!! Also releasing a disc devoted to world premieres of new works. So great and very challenging repertoire that will challenge players for sure.

Taking Flight with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra represents the first ever full recording with symphony orchestra in the history of the instrument. A disc of outstanding transcriptions and the much heralded and award winning Concerto for Euphonium: Swimming the Mountain by Allen Feinstein - WINNER of the 2006 ITEA Harvey Phillips Composition Contest.

Beyond the Horizon is the first in a series of WORLD PREMIERE recordings devoted to highlighting outstanding new music for the euphonium. The goal of the series is to highlight works for euphonium and piano and also spotlight chamber works on each album. This first volume pairs Adam with Paula Peace, Artistic Director of the Atlanta Chamber Players. Former Canadian Brass trumpeter, Fred Mills, joins Adam on Wilhelm's Duett Concertino for Trumpet, Euphonium, and Piano. Thanks for the kind words and the Taking Flight was great fun to do.

As far as the question about the investment in these 3 CD projects (Taking Flight, Majestic Journey, and Beyond the Horizon)...well they have required an extremely hefty investment to travel to New Zealand and then hire an entire orchestra for 3 full days. Yet making 2 landmark recordings that are firsts for the euphonium will be the long term goal.

My hope is that people choose to check out the CD on a variety of levels and obviously owning the recording will help encourage and support future projects potentially in the works...

I asked the $ question and I appreciate the level truth. Personally, I admire anyone who loves their art so much they are willing to go in debt for it. I hope it sells a million copies. From what I have heard of your playing, it should.

Lisa's questions about why the NZSO. Well they were a fabulous choice on a number of levels. Firstly, they are an incredible group. They are a full time, full size orchestra that plays many many concerts and recording sessions annually versus many ad hoc and free lance orchestras. There are certainly MANY cheaper choices, but you do get what you pay for. They were also interested in being a part of a ground breaking project like this as well.

Also, it was a great locale and new people to meet and certainly provided an ideal location for a vacation after we finished recording.

But in the end, the quality of ensemble was tremendous that we recorded more than 100 minutes of music that was quite demanding in less than 15 hours. Especially when you realize the orchestra had not practiced the parts before the sessions, so you have to read it, rehearse, and record, but of course the red light is always on.

As a follow-up to Bill's bump, he is dead on when he says they are great! The lyrical and technical playing is just outstanding. The orchestra behind Adam is excellent as well!!
